Ziggy

I recently accepted commissions in a drawing challenge to create portraits for £30, and completed 5 in one day. These are  black & white sketches, necessarily made with a quick technique.

This is Ziggy, a lovely lurcher dog who recently passed away.

Lower Clapton Road

Good times at Lower Clapton Road. This shot was actually staged the day after I drew on the wall. The giveaway is the banana that I’m holding in place of a lost marker pen.

Seated Woman, Melbourne

This sketch is from a huge set of drawings and paintings from the magnificent Avalon Mansion (now destroyed), Albert Park Melbourne. This was one of the first poses from a massive day of drawing and painting (and wine drinking and listening to great music).

Life drawing

Just found in an old portfolio. It’s a conté crayon life drawing from classes in Liverpool. I was 19 at the time.

Sometimes you imagine your old work not being very good. I’m definitely better at drawing now, but I’m pretty proud of my 19 year old ability to proportion a human body as good as this.

I can’t remember the model’s name-apologies, this is rare for me. In the drawing breaks, she’d walk around in a floral dressing gown critiquing everyone’s work – a real character. Those weekly classes were a lot of fun.
